Japanese gin is a rich spirit full of tension. In addition to traditional herbs, its amazing aromatic complexity is based on the explosion of Japanese citrus fruits, such as Yuzu, Kabosu and Amanatsu, but also on the freshness of apples. Green tea and Japanese Sancho pepper complete the rest of its elements, in a taste experience completely different and extremely interesting. A pioneering, premium botanical gin, with the distillation process in Coffey Still, brings out all the aromas and flavors from the tradition of Japan.
The Japanese art that goes by the name of Nikka whiskey is the “child” of Masataka Taketsuru, the first person to create Japanese whiskey. With a long experience in the distillation of Scottish malt, in 1933 he opened his own distillery in order to create his own premium Japanese whisky. Today, Japanese Nikka whiskies have 2 distilleries, one in Hokkaido (Yoici Distillery) and one in Miyagi (Miyagikyo/Sendai Distillery). Yoichi is the latest distillery to use coal heating in Japan, which helps preserve the spirit’s traditional character. On the other hand, Miyagikyo produces lighter and fruitier whisky similar to those of the Scottish Lowlands. Remarkably, here they mix malt whisky with grain whisky, a process that few distilleries in Scotland do.
