The history of Tamdhu begins with the end of the Victorian era on the outskirts of the River Spey, where it operates until 2010 according to the vision and principles of the founder. In 2011 it was acquired by Ian Macleod Distillers – a family-owned independent company. The company restarted in 2012, with the new owners determined to restore this illustrious malt to its former glory. The maturation barrels used today are of the same type as those used in the distillery when it was founded in 1897 and are sherry barrels.
Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whiskey now boasts its new label, 12-year ageing, reflecting Tandhu’s commitment to producing “only the best” aged whisky and replacing the existing Tamdhu 10 Year Old.
The Tamdhu 12 Year Old, benefiting from an additional two years of maturation, is bottled at 43% ABV and has matured for 12 whole in American and European sherry Oloroso barrels from its Jerez partnerships. The result is a complex and rich whisky with a unique malt that offers complexity, with flavors of cinnamon, dried fruit, banana and oak notes.
